Story from www.wrc.com
Milestone, Italys largest developer of PC and console games, is currently working on WRC 3 for PS3, Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation Vita. According to the firm the game is a radical departure from previous editions and promises advanced lighting, crowd and particle effects. Featuring more than 50 official WRC teams and all the events from the 2012 calendar.
During the Acropolis Rally in Greece in late May, WRC Academy crews were invited to complete one simulated timed run over the events opening special stage in a Ford Fiesta R2, which is used as standard in the young driver-training series.
Timo van der Marel, from the Netherlands, headed Swedens Fredrik Ahlin by an impressive 10-second margin with Ahlins countryman Pontus Tidemand third quickest.
It was really good fun having the simulator in the service park, said van der Marel. I love competition - whether it is in the car, on the PlayStation, anything really - and I always want to win! Maybe I had a little bit of an advantage because I have the game at home, but I hadnt played it in a while. Hopefully in Finland we will have even more people in the service park as they try to beat our times.
The Milestone League will be held over the remaining four WRC Academy rounds with the overall winner - based on the series point-scoring system - receiving a PS3 and a copy of the new WRC 3 game.
