Greetings from London, where I'm gearing up to test BMW's just-unveiled eScooter, the C evolution.
You'll get riding impressions as soon as I can swing a leg over the electric 'scoot, but in the meantime here are some key facts about the C evolution:
- Though top speed will be electronically limited to 75 mph, BMW claims their electric scooter will be able to "comfortably hold its own against current maxi scooters [of] 600cc or more
- Continuous output is rated at 11 kW, and peak at 35 kW; that translates to 14.75 hp and 46.93 hp
- Using the same lithium ion storage models found in the upcoming BMW i3, the C evolution should have a range of up to 62 miles
- Though weight and space is saved by air cooling the battery, the drivetrain swingarm and alternator (which spins at up to 10,000 rpm) are liquid cooled
- Regenerative braking can extend cruising range by 10 to 20 percent
- The scooter will utilize an an automotive style, high-voltage ISO 2626 standard socket for quick charging

BMW's gasoline-powered C 600 Sport and C 650 GT reach American shores this fall, and will be priced in the $9,000-$10,000 range. The electric C evolution, if and when it hits the U.S., will be available in 2014, at the earliest. Apologies for the error.
